Zirconocene complexes of substituted naphthalynes have been generated in situ and trapped with nitriles to form azametallacycles with excellent regiochemical control. These compounds can be converted into ketones, alpha-iodo ketones, and iodoacylnaphthoquinones with experimentally simple procedures.
