Professors Stephen L. Buchwald and John F. Hartwig (University of California, Berkeley) have been awarded the 2019 Wolf Prize.  Five Wolf Prizes are typically awarded annually, four in the sciences and one in the arts.  Professors Buchwald and Hartwig share the prize “for the development of efficient transition-metal catalysts that have revolutionized drug manufacturing, leading to breakthrough in molecule and synthetics design.”

Congratulations to Professors Stephen L. Buchwald and John F. Hartwig for winning the 2018 Tetrahedron Prize for Creativity in Organic Chemistry!  The annual award was established in 1980 by the Executive Board of Editors and the Publisher of Tetrahedron Publications.  It is awarded to Organic or Medicinal Chemists who have made significant original contributions to the field.

SLB wins 2017 ACS Carothers Award

Camille Dreyfus Professor of Chemistry Stephen L. Buchwald has been named the 2017 recipient of the ACS Carothers Award from the Delaware Section of the American Chemical Society. Professor Buchwald will accept the award and give a lecture at the group’s April Section Meeting, when a banquet dinner and reception will be held in his honor. The Carothers Lecture Award is sponsored by the Delaware Section and by local chemical companies, and consists of a bronze sculpture and a $2,000 cash prize. It was established in 1976 in memory of Wallace H. Carothers, one of the founders of modern polymer chemistry. The award is given annually and is intended to honor scientific innovators who have made outstanding contributions and advances in industrial applications of chemistry.
